Watch Materials – The Metal Materials

1. Precious Metals

(1) Platinum
Platinum is a kind of rare and expensive natural pure white metal. It is one of the most rare and precious metals for production of jewelry in the world. The supply of Platinum is only 5% of gold annually. It is more harder and rarer than gold. With white gloss, naturally purity (as high as 90%), Platinum jewelry will not fade even though you wear them frequently. As we usually say, Pt900 stands for 90% purity platinum jewelry and Pt950stands for 95% purity platinum jewelry.

(2) K Gold
K gold is a kind of alloy which mixes gold and other metal. K gold is short for Karat Gold. The precious pure gold is 24K which is too soft to produce watches. Therefore, we need to mix with other metals to enhance the hardness, generally speaking, these metals are silver, copper and palladium. No matter what we mix, the proportion of pure gold is always 75%. With the different proportion of gold, silver and copper, it can produce five different colored materials.

(3) Silver
Silver is an old and precious metal. In eighteenth century even earlier people usually use this metal to make wristwatch. The number 925 stands for the purity of silver. It is the highest purity of silver. As pretty active metal, silver will easily react with sulfur in the air and generate black oxide layer. This will blacken silver. So in modern times, watch manufacturers rarely use silver to produce watch. It is easily lose its luster due to water and moisture.

2. Other Metal Materials

(1) Semi-payment mixes stainless steel and 18K gold, presenting a unique two-color aesthetic.

(2)Plating is a common way in modern times to decorate watch. Electroplating technology rose in the seventies. It is uniform and solid, so plating received quickly by watch makers.

(3)Copper is the best material. It is cheap and easy to process. It is mainly used in the movement. Today, most of the movement is brass alloy splint. The movement colors we usually see are yellow and white: yellow movement is usually plated titanium dioxide and white movement is zinc-nickel alloy.

(4) Steel

Although we have difficulties to process stainless steel, its corrosion resistance and wear resistance deeply attract the manufacturers. The surface can be plated or not plated just do polishing or sandblasting and lassa processing. It will form three-dimensional effect.

(5) Titanium Metals
With the upsurge of steel watches, titanium metal gradually emerges. The materials are named as “air age” metal. What is Titanium? Titanium metal is found in the earth’s crust. Its appearance can be a bright shiny metal or silver-gray, dark gray powder. Titanium is a light hard, heat-resistant and cold-resistant metal. The oxide layer in surface can prevent wear and corrosion.

(6) Tungsten steel
High hardness, wear resistance, clear appearance lines clear, bright and clean, Tungsten steel is known as the “wear-resistant materials.” It can be mixed with steel to make bezel or strap. It keep watch more corrosion-resistant and more beautiful.

(7) Precision Ceramic
Fine Ceramics are clean and wearable. It will not hurt skin. Its main component is oxide zirconium. Through advanced processing methods, we can use fine ceramic to make beautiful case and strap.

(8) Blue Steel
Blue Steel is a kind of steel processed specially. It will emit blue halo color. Blue Steel is mainly used in the pointer. It has anti-oxidant properties and make watch more beautiful.

The Factors of Time Walking not Smoothly

If your watch can not walking smoothly, you should find reason from the following factors:

1. The temperature will affect the speed of the timer operation (only the pointer and digital quartz watch)
Your watch can work stably and accurately when temperature is between 5 ° C ~ 35 ° C. When temperature exceeds 60 ° C it will lead to battery leakage or battery’s life shortening. What’s more, putting a watch in a low-temperature (-10°C) environment for a long time will make the hands go faster or slower.

2. Magnetic (both affect the mechanical watches and quartz watches)
In our lives there are a number of magnetic sources, such as: 3C electrical appliances and cell phones, razor, bag buckle, audio speakers, healthy bracelets, healthy beds, healthy pillow, etc. ….  Being close to these magnetic fields, watch will be affected by the magnetic and resistanted. In addition, the magnetic polarity of quartz watch will be affected, which makes watch go slowly even stop working. We propose that technicians who work in welding environment should not wear mechanical or quartz pointer watch.
Because there is no magnetic gear and magnetic motor vehicle, digital quartz watch will not be affected by magnetic.

3.To prevent collision and fall
Watch is a high-precision mechanical part which has at least 80 combinations of parts. Although it is usually anti-vibration, we haven’t yet develop dropping resistance watches so far. Most watches can only tolerate mild shock when people do sports or other activities. Please make sure that don’t let your watches fall on the ground or contact hard objects.

4.Regular maintenance
All watches must be maintained regularly (every 2 to 3 years). Because of constantly movement, day after day, the tank will become dry sludge. So the spare parts may be rusty and the gear shaft cores wear and tear speedly. We need use ultrasonic to clean sludge, and re-lubricating. We also should check the case and waterproof apron whether nee to be replaced. Make sure you do perfect maintenance.
