Omega Countdown Clock and Seamaster London 2012 Olympic Limited Edition

In 2012, Omega will be the official timekeeper for the London 2012 Olympic Games for the 25th time. As the 500 day countdown to the start of the London Olympic Games began, the Omega Countdown Clock in Trafalgar Square was unveiled on March 14.

President of Omage, Stephen Urquhart, as the clock lit up, said,”In 1948, the last time the Olympic Games were held in this city, OMEGA Swiss Watches was responsible for timing each discipline in every sport. That edition of the Games is remembered for the technological milestones in timekeeping: the photoelectric cell, our fully-automated timing system and the first photofinish camera ever used at an Olympic Games. Then, as now, we were proud to be at the service of the International Olympic Committee and the world’s great athletes,”

Except for the Countdown Clock in Trafalgar Square, the Swiss luxury watchmaker has also launched the Seamaster Aqua Terra 44 London Chronograph in two elegant configurations, in order to commenmorate Omega’s continued timekeeping role for the Olympic Games.

The first version presented on a lush black leather strap, features a bicolor case swathed in gleaming 18 Ct red gold and stainless steel. The second is cast from rugged stainless steel and presented with a matching bracelet and deep blue dial. The case back conceals a dramatic flourish: flip the special edition timepiece over and you’ll see a beautifully stamped London 2012 Olympic emblem. These two watches are both water-resistant to a depth of 500ft.

Bottega Veneta Releases Its First Watch – BVX

Bottega Veneta has launched its first watch, BVX, a unisex timepiece produced in collaboration with the Sowind Group, owner of Girard-Perregaux. The Bottega Veneta watch will be available at the end of the year at select Bottega Veneta stores worldwide.

“Bottega Veneta’s cornerstones – artisanal craftsmanship, fine-quality materials, contemporary functionality, and timeless design – lend themselves perfectly to watches,” explained Bottega Veneta Creative Director, Tomas Maier. “For us, this introduction is a natural step in the evolution of the brand. Working with the Girard-Perregaux team enabled us to marry Bottega Veneta’s core values with the finest watchmaking expertise in the world.”

“There are lots of small details designed solely for the wearer’s pleasure. For example, the crown is placed not at 3 o’clock but a little lower, so if you wear the watch on your left wrist it won’t dig into your hand. The band is easily adjustable, so if you’re playing tennis and want to loosen it for a few hours, you can do that.”

Designed expressly for Bottega Veneta and assembled from elements of 18-karat rose gold, the automatic movement offers date and small second functions. The 41mm case, meanwhile, is made from brushed titanium, finished with a PVD coating in the brand’s signature brunito color.

A curved sapphire crystal also covers the face and the underside of the watch which leaves the workings completely exposed, including a single screw which runs through the entire watch from top to bottom.
